A short and memorable visit to Seville was a busy and well spend day exploring the globally joyous city popular for its humour and laughter.
We reached Seville via bus from algarve, which took around 2 hours and 40minutes. We started early, just stopped for coffee and reached Seville by 10.30am.
It was a guided tour costing around Euro 35 each, value for money and best part was the guide, absolutely hilarious and knowledgeable, who kept us well versed with all the history and updates of Seville. It was a good decision to go with this option for such a short and last moment visit.
Seville is the paradise for bikers and among the-top best cities of the world for it. Cycling in Seville is incomparable , its pleasant climate, the beauty of its monuments and the expanse of its bike lane, all interconnected, let’s you enjoy and deliver a unique experience to explore the city on two wheels.
The Giralda
Epic tallest building in the city for over 800 years, dominating the skyline at 103metres.Originally built in 1195 as the minaret of the Aljama mosque, it is now the belltower of the cathedral, and is recognised as World Heritage by UNESCO.
Gothic Cathedral
Seville’s immense cathedral is jaw dropping in its scale and majesty. The world’s largest Gothic cathedral, it was built between 1434 and 1517 over the remains of what had previously been the city’s main mosque. There is a bell dome on top, which is a recent addition.
Alcazar Palace
Sevilla lies on the banks of the Guadalquivir and is one of the largest historical centres in Europe.
While the Alcazar looks like a Moorish palace, in fact many of its most beautiful rooms were built – by Moorish workmen, it’s true – for the Christian king, Pedro the Cruel of Castile, in the 1360s. Pedro lived in, and ruled from, the palace with his mistress, Maria de Padilla. He embarked upon a complete rebuilding and extending of the palace, employing the finest workmen from Granada and Toledo, and utilising fragments of earlier Moorish buildings in Seville, Cordoba and Valencia.
The grounds of the Alcazar are extensive and fascinating, so be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to wander around the whole palace and gardens – two to three hours minimum. The Alcazar public entrance near the intersection of Calle Santo Tomas & Calle Miguel Mañara, and the exit is round the corner in Patio de los Banderas.
The Alcazar of Seville was used as a location for scenes in Season Five, and Six of the hugely successful HBO TV series, Game of Thrones,
Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold)
Torre del Oro (Tower of Gold) is a historic watchtower that was built in the early thirteenth century by the Almohades, who ruled over Andalusia. The tower is now home to a naval museum.
Shopping & Eating.
The city has been experiencing a progressive pedestrianization process, which makes shopping so much fun, without the noisy atmosphere, which is a pleasure.
From traditional shopping areas to more modern environments, everything has its space in Seville.I bought a few tapas bowls, just could not resist myself from doing it, in spite of tight luggage allowance for return after doing shopping at Algarve.
Seville is the world capital of Tapas due to the quality and quantity it offers.
It was a lovely sunny day, after long queue to the cathedral and palace, we refreshed and energised at a local bar and restaurant. The place is just loaded with food lanes, finally quenched our thirst and hunger with delicious paella and sangria. One can make a pick depending in your pockets
